Metal beds were used a lot in the Old West. Many people don't realize that the very bed they could be sleeping on tonight could have been inspired by beds of the Old West. There are many antique metal beds of today that came from that period in time or are greatly inspired by that period in time.

If you?re looking for a new metal bed, a new bed or just to learn more about metal beds, you should look into metal beds in the Old West.

Why did people sleep on metal beds in the old West? The biggest reason people would sleep on metal beds is that they were the easiest available material for people of that era and part of the world. Many people of this area were metalworkers and they made their beds by hand.

Metal bed frames were much easier to come by than wood in those particular areas. Since, much of the west did not have trees and wooded areas, or very few of these areas, wood was scarce and often all of the available wood was used up in making structures such as homes and buildings.

Metal was then used for accessories and other items such as chairs and bed frames. There was a lot of mining in the area and ore was more readily available. Many people worked in metal works as a trade and began creating beautiful and elaborate metal frames.

What types of metal beds did people sleep on in the old West? This depended on different factors such as what types of metal they had access to and what kind of style they enjoyed. Some metal beds were very simple, just a frame with a mattress. They had no headboard or footboards. Others have plain, simple headboards and footboards or just a headboard.

Then there were some with very detailed headboard and footboard designs. There may be flowers, cowboys, houses or other intricate designs created from the metal in the headboard design. Sometimes the metal was carved and polished to create an image or depiction on the headboard.

Usually metal beds in the old west would become a type of family heirloom. They might get passed down from generation to generation and move along with a family as they changed houses. They were often made to be more lightweight to accommodate this. Many metal beds in the Old West as well as those made in later times to depict those of the true old West, are considered antiques.

There are many metal beds of today that were inspired by those early models in the Old West. Some people really enjoyed the look and feel to them and others just love the era and want to be representative of it. They are also convenient and easy to clean, giving them another plus.

Whatever the reason you love them, if you choose metal beds like those in the Old West for your home today, they can last many years with proper care and maintenance.
