Platform beds are very popular in modern design and décor. They have become so popular now that you can actually find many different designs in platform beds. The oriental design is one popular choice. Oriental design has been around in home décor for quite some time now and it is popular for bedrooms. This has now also been brought to the platform bed and the Western bedrooms.

Platform beds are unique because they are created to sit lower on the ground and provide a firm sleeping surface. They have no headboard or footboard and they can be great for smaller living spaces and smaller bedrooms. They are usually situated on a rectangular base but can sometimes be created with four very small legs at the corners.

Platform beds are unlike the traditional spring mattress as they contain a thin smaller mattress that sits directly on the platform, low to the ground. The cost is lower for the mattress than that of a spring mattress and there is traditionally less bedding, which helps you save even more. The beds are considered very comfortable and they have a sleek look and design to them making them fit in well with most any type of décor.

Platform beds go great with Oriental design and décor for many reasons. They are currently common in eastern countries because they naturally give an Oriental look to the room. You can also build it with a wider plank around the bed which can be used as a bench or a stand and you can build a headboard function for a shelf for a lamp or book, etc.

Simplistic is really the top when it comes to Oriental design in platform beds. A simple look can add a real charm and calm to the room. Oriental platform beds are designed close to the ground you feel almost like you're sleeping on the floor except without actually being on the floor.

Oriental designs in platform beds carry many of the same features and characteristics of other Oriental furniture. Some other examples of furniture that goes with an Oriental design in platform beds would be stacked chests or trunks. The design is very simple but elegant. Sometimes it contains semi-precious elements such as lapis, jade or mother of pearl.

The sleek, stream-lined look of a platform bed can be attributed to the Oriental customs of design. Most comes from a desire to save space and get more from the space you have but many Western cultures consider it a great part of the modern look and appeal. Oriental design is what first inspired platform beds and you can now continue to use it as part of an overall bedroom décor idea.

With a great Oriental design in your platform bed along with bedding, window coverings, Oriental rugs and other design elements, you can easily create an Oriental-inspired bedroom without breaking your budget.

Platform beds are very affordable, simple to set up and don't take up a lot of space but when used as part of an Oriental design, they can create an expensive and luxurious feel in any bedroom.
