Everyone has only 24 hours in a day, so why is it that some people can get so much more done than others? This is of special concern for home business owners. There are so many distractions in the home that can take you away from what you need to focus on.

Brian Tracy is the guru of time management and goal-setting and he says "this is a skill that we must all learn to desire and concur if we are to achieve great results". There is no other skill a home business owner can learn that will pay off better than time management. The most valuable thing we have as human beings is time. Once time is gone you can never get it back, so the development of these skills is well worth the time and effort you give to them.

So how do you start to manage your time?

Below is a list of ideas for home business owners to use that will organize your day and keep you focused on the prize; a profitable home business.

Purchase a day timer. There are many brands and styles. Go to your local office supply store and pick out the one that best suits your personal taste. It should have a page to list tasks you need to accomplish each day. That can be by hour or half-hour, but you will want enough space to schedule your day.

Spend 30 minutes first thing every day listing all the important activities that must be accomplished today. I usually start this on another sheet of paper because once you have your list you will want to put them in priority order. Also, you should challenge yourself but never put more on your plate than you can handle in one day. A good rule of thumb is to have no more than six tasks per day.

As said by the great Earl Nightingale "Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use."

Now that your tasks are in order work at them in order until they are completed. Do not get distracted and move on to the next one or jump around, complete the first task and move on to the next. This ensures that you have given each task focus and you completed it to the best of your ability.

At the end of the day review your results. If you did not accomplish everything on your list don't punish yourself, make those tasks the highest priority tomorrow. As a home business owner staying focused on your business and making the best use of your time will lead to great success and a sense of accomplishment every day.

"We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons" Jim Rohn- Mastering the skill of time management is time well spent for you and the profits you'll see in your home business opportunity.
