This article discusses just one of the hundreds of ways to start new businesses with the skills or interests you have for very little money. All businesses discussed in this series will make money quickly for you and there is almost nothing to buy, no group to join, no meetings to attend. The example in this article will assume you are a handy person with some tools who is good at basic home repairs but you can use this formula for any type of service business.

Find A Need

Almost every home in America has small jobs that need to be done. They may be too small to hire someone to do. For example, my home has a light switch that isn't working, a toilet that needs the handle jiggled to stop flushing and a screen door that doesn't slide properly. I just put up with these minor inconveniences because who can I call to fix them? There are thousands of homes with similar problems and a similar need in your area. If you can solve their problem, they will be glad to pay you well.

Set A Price

Most accountants tell you that you should charge about three times what you estimate it would cost to hire a worker to do the job you are doing. For example, if you could hire a worker to do these types of handyman jobs for $15 per hour, your fee should be about $45 to $50.

Design An Appealing Promotional Package

To get business, we suggest an interesting promotional package. You might try Handyman For A Day. This package gives a home owner up to 7 hours of work. Seven hours is $350.00 at your normal rate but they can have you work on any thing in their home for up to 7 hours for only $199.00 (plus parts). This is a good deal for customers and it will get you more business in the future because they are happy with your initial work.

How To Get Customers

If you are operating on a low budget have no fear. You can get customers by going door to door to explain your offer. You can also use automated services to make prospecting calls for you while you. You can also advertise for free on sites like www.craigslist.org

Example Of Reasonable Expectations

Using these techniques, you can have customers almost immediately. A reasonable goal might be to do one job per day. That would give you 5 jobs per week at $199.00 is $995.00 for a week's work. You will have to do door to door selling on your day off or in off hours, but the telephone prospecting service can be lining up work with no extra time on your part.

The initial $995 per week is just the beginning. Happy customers will have you back at your regular rates, some will give you larger jobs to do. You may eventually hire someone to do the handyman work for you while you do bigger and more profitable job.

This is just one example, there are many businesses you can start with almost no money and be earning a reasonable amount in just a few days.

Good luck with your new business.
