How tough is it to be a bodybuilder? Look at it this way: the reason the professional bodybuilders become so famous is because very few people reach their potential due to lack of commitment. Developing a contest physique is not easy and it takes a lot of hard work and effort.
Thankfully, many of the men that have succeeded in the world of bodybuilding have catalogued some basic conventional wisdom that can be used to improve other's chances of bodybuilding success. For those looking to develop an excellent physique, here are some bodybuilding tips:
Always watch your diet. While it is true that during the mass building stage you will need to eat additional calories in order to boost muscle size, you do not want to pack on "slop weight." In other words, you do not want to gain a lot of excess fat that will do nothing for improving your physique but will detract from it.
Up your protein intake since protein is the building block of all muscle. Your muscles cannot grow without proper and adequate protein intake. This is a simple and basic fact of how the body works. For those that want a muscular physique but are worried about the calories in many protein sources, taking supplements such as protein shakes or capsules can deliver a desired effect.
Superset your workouts since they will cut down on gym time while also delivering solid mass gain results. What are supersets? They involve jumping immediate from one weightlifting exercise to the next without any rest.
You will need to work out different muscle groups with the exercises since this will prevent fatigue from setting in. Supersets greatly maximize the potential to boost mass development which is why they are utilized by so many pros.
Never overlook the value of high reps with low weight. A solid bodybuilder physique is not all about mass. It is about definition. High reps and low weights will greatly aid in such development in no time at all.
And, by the way, watching your diet and keeping bad food choices to a minimum will help in this regard as well.
Work muscles to the point of fatigue. If you can perform 8 reps easily, try to make it to 12. If you cannot and can only reach the halfway point between 10 and 11, pat yourself on the back. Fatiguing the muscle in such a way will spurt muscle growth.
Get adequate rest. Contrary to what many assume, muscles do not grow during the actual workout stage. Rather, they grow when they are at rest.
During the resting stage, the muscle that was broken down in the workout can now repair itself and grow stronger. That is why it would be counterproductive to workout everyday and deny the body the rest it needs.
Work out at least 4 days a week as this will aid in maximizing gains. No, you do not have to kill yourself in the gym but you do want to be consistent enough that you experience positive results from the venture.
