There are many different kinds of knee braces, but not all knee braces are created equal.

OA (Osteoarthritis) knee braces can come in off-the-shelf designs, and can be custom fit to help people with mild to moderate osteoarthritis. Usually the pain for individuals with unicompartmental OA, is located on the inside (medial aspect) of their knee.

A full knee replacement may be a distant solution for people with painful arthritis, or pain on the inside of their knee, but most people would try to avoid this kind of surgical procedure if possible. To help avoid an invasive surgical procedure, an individual's physician often times will recommend supporting the knee, with a knee brace

OA knee braces are designed to shift some of the stress away from the arthritic portion of the knee, which often times provides significant knee pain relief.

An osteoarthritis knee brace can help people to return to the activities of daily living; which is all most people want. This is important because we know that activity actually helps an arthritic knee by stimulating the cartilage cells. In addition, staying active helps you to keep your weight down, which is critical for your overall health.

Recently, in the American Journal Of Lifestyle Medicine, an article was written depicting the value of OA knee braces, stating : "Unicompartmental osteoarthritis of the knee affects millions of individuals. Most nonsurgical management of this progressive disease is primarily directed at reducing inflammation and pain with medication. Evidence supports the clinical efficacy of bracing for managing osteoarthritis of the knee. In some patients, bracing significantly reduces pain, increases function, and reduces excessive loading to the damaged compartment. A variety of health and functional status instruments, as well as radiologic techniques and biomechanical investigations, has been used to evaluate the unloading capabilities of these braces. Although changes in angulation are relatively minimal, the braces have been shown to load share and thus reduce the stresses in the degenerated medial compartment of the knee."

There are many different reasons why people look for knee pain relief. People often times get knee braces to help to provide knee stability, pain relief, to provide knee protection, and to achieve an improved sense of confidence in their daily activities. Could you benefit from any of these knee brace qualities?
