Most women that plastic surgeons see have considered receiving breast surgery for many years. Sometimes they will tell their plastic surgeon that they have always felt out of proportion in clothing. There are other times that women will say they have seen their breasts change following the birth of their child or children. The majority of candidates for any cosmetic breast surgery want natural looking breasts and many express fears that they will come out of surgery appearing too big or "fake." Some potential patients even tell their cosmetic surgeons that they just want to look like they do when they wear their padded bra, just without the bra.

On of the most gratifying breast surgery procedures that plastic surgeons commonly perform is breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty. These breast reduction patients not only find themselves more confident and comfortable in their clothing, but they are often relieved of back, shoulder, and neck pain that can often come along with large breasts.

The breast reduction procedure is performed under a general anesthetic and is typically done on an outpatient basis. Contrary to what many potential patients will assume, breast reduction surgery is not a very painful procedure and patients typically resume most of their normal activities with in a week.

Reduction mammoplasty is frequently covered by insurance though it is important to make sure that you will be receiving benefits with the particular plan before scheduling the actual surgery. Your plastic surgeon and his or her staff will be happy to assist you with this and with any specific aspect of your breast reduction procedure.

The reconstruction of one's breast, or breast reconstruction, follows a mastopexy and is an option that is available to all women. There is more than one technique used for breast reconstruction. Some of these techniques will use the muscle and some will use the tissues from your back or stomach. Other techniques will use breast implants. Depending on your general health, your desires, and your physical characteristics, your plastic surgeon and his team can help your determine which technique is appropriate and best for your optimal results.

If you are contemplating breast reconstruction you can contact a local plastic surgeon to learn more about the process of receiving one.

Sagging of the breasts occurs due to the combination of loss of skin elasticity and gravity with age. This process can be sped up by larger breasts, the birth of children, or significant weight loss. Mastopexy, or more commonly known as breast lift surgery, elevates the breast tissue by removing tissue from the lower part of the breast. The plastic surgeon then reshapes the remaining breast to create more upper fullness to the breasts. In some cases, this procedure will also relocate the nipple(s) and areola(s) to a higher position. Breast lift surgery can be performed alone or in conjunction with breast enhancement surgery. This depends on your individual needs.
