If you have had a network marketing business for any length of time you have probably struggled with lead generation. You may already know exactly what works, and what does not. However if you are open to new ideas here are a few things we have found that are hot in lead generation and a few that are not.

1. Buying outdated leads does not work for the majority of network marketers. Outdated leads are anything that are 30 days or older.

These leads have been sold many times and have been contacted by multiple MLM business owners. The problem with this is you can spend a tremendous amount of time trying to find qualified prospects and ultimately end up quitting and frustration.

2. Buying fresh leads is a hot way to do lead generation. The very best lead you can purchase is one that you receive in real time. This means that the lead comes directly to you and you are billed for it the minute your prospect fills out an online form.

You can obviously see the difference between leads in real time and outdated leads of 30 days or older. Many people surf the Internet and quickly forget what they filled out forms on.

Your ability to follow up with them almost instantly gives you a huge advantage in dealing with them while they are still in the right frame of mind to hear about your MLM business.

3. Contacting friends and neighbors about your MLM opportunity is not a good way to do lead generation. This does not mean you can't visit with them in the natural context of your day to day activities if it comes up.

The bad way to handle this is to make a list and start contacting everybody on it you know. This comes across as selling and people have become immune to it and for the most part are turned off by it.

4. A better way is to use the Internet to develop leads of your own. Generating leads online that you can follow up at your own pace is a much better way to do it then phoning everybody you know. Plus the Internet can sort through unqualified prospects for you allowing you to only deal with people who have a genuine interest in your MLM business opportunity.

This is four tips on what is hot and what is not hot in lead generation. Generating fresh leads, and following up with people who are interested, is definitely the best way to go.
