Maybe you feel that you do not have a creative bone in your body but you may be pleasantly surprised. It is actually quite easy to put wedding invitations together (or any other invitations for that matter!). The big secret is planning and to break it up into simple steps. Follow the steps one after the other and create do-it-yourself wedding invitations. See, it is easy!

This will be the first article of several dealing with the design, layout and wording of wedding invitations which will basically give you the steps to follow. The only thing you have to do is to decide how you want the final result to look and take that into consideration when doing each step. It is time consuming and you should allow for that but the reward at the end of the process is indescribable.

There is no wrong way and do not be afraid to play around. It is unlikely that you will get it right the first time but then again you might. Play with it and have fun. It actually becomes quite addictive. I find that when I am in a hobby store with all the beautiful sheets of paper and endless accessories for card making, I end up looking for an excuse to make invitations!

There is so much available to play with when you make do-it-yourself wedding invitations and do not be afraid to think outside the box. Challenge the norm - the set way of doing things. Shake it up a bit and put your own very personal stamp on it. It is after all your wedding, your special day. Make people excited about it when they receive your invitation with hopes of having a good time (within limits of course!) with you and your husband.

So let us get started. These are some of the things you will have to consider when starting with your design:

Color

Rule of thirds

Dominance

Proportion

Visual Center

Balance

It sounds like a mouthful but actually it is not. I found this page that has a lot of helpful information on each different aspect of the design of do-it-yourself wedding invitations: http://www.wedding-invitation-ideas.com/design-your-own-wedding-invitations.html#design.

These are not major issues (except for the color of course) but should be kept in the back of your mind.

The next step will be to take a look at the layout considerations when you make your do-it-yourself wedding invitations. Following the steps will ensure a very rewarding creative experience.

Are you engaged to be married? Then you will be searching for creative wedding ideas. I have a lot of experience in organizing weddings and other large functions and personally selected trustworthy programs to help with your wedding planning.
