Although because of the internet it seems rather easy to set up or configure a residual income home business, there are a few things that you must consider first. Before you get started with any product or program consider these 2 things that can kill your business.

1. Wrong Product

To create a residual income with any product it has to be a product that people continue to buy over and over. A residual income is built on the idea that one day you can walk away and not have to work anymore. If you choose a home business that represents a product that is overpriced, or can be purchased anywhere for less than you are selling on the Internet, you will have problems creating an ongoing income.

For example, health products fall into this category. Many network marketing companies are built around providing nutritional supplements as their primary product. For sure there are excellent nutritional supplements and you can buy companies from like that.

The problem is that you can also buy similar products at places like Wal-Mart and Walgreens. Because people join a program and get excited about the income opportunities they never really get attached to the products.

This makes it easy for them to quit when they are not making money and therefore their residual income is not stable. You are better off to choose a product that is unique, will attract a lifelong customer, and cannot be purchased down the street at any retailer.

For this reason, information-based products, membership style products, and so on, make excellent products. Examples of this are website hosting, personal development training, niche marketing, private label right products, and so on.

2. Attrition

It is only natural that a certain percentage of people who join a program are going to quit. Not all people are motivated enough to stick with something long enough to be successful. Certainly most of them do not have the skills it takes to build a home business of their own when they first start.

Unfortunately, the attrition rate in affiliate marketing in network marketing has been so high that to achieve a residual income from your home business takes an effort that very few people can achieve. For this reason developing a duplicatable system becomes even more important when you are using the Internet.

You can never really ease up, or feel like you can retire in the early years of your home business. Eventually you are looking for a frontline of distributors or affiliate marketers that you can earn an ongoing income from their efforts. This is going to take a lot of time and effort, but in the long run can be worthwhile if you yourself are willing to stick with it.

In the end what you decide to do is a personal choice. Use these valuable tips for making the best choice on starting your own residual income home business.
