Ninety-five percent of all attempts to lose weight end in failure -- either to lose or to keep it off.
Why? Because weight loss is a big business. Real solutions stop the profit flow. More important, giving advice has a low-cost of entry, particulary since the internet.
People don't follow strict rules when hiring advisors or choosing the programs they follow:
* you'd never go to a neighbor down the street for medical advice
* people have unrealistic expectations about losing weight
* you're easily sold on the idea that you can lose 30 pounds in 30 days without dieting or exercising
* the medical community really has no idea about how this process works
These issues and many more conspire against your success.
Here's the real story. When fat was blamed for heart disease, all professional agencies recommended low-fat eating. What was the idea behind this?
It was that fat carried 9 calories per gram and carbs and protein had 4 calories per gram. The "experts" reasoned that if people substituted carbs for fat that they'd reduce calorie intake by 50%. Guess what? It didn't work.
In fact, calorie intake actually increased because all of those carbs got converted to body fat and then hunger set in and you just eat more. What was the outcome? The only one that was possible, people got fatter and they were hungry all the time.
The most popular weight control program of the last 50 years has been the low-fat diet. This protocol was promoted by the medical boys, commercial programs such as Weight Watchers, and many other groups.
Did any of them know that carbs converted to fat? No.
In 2007, researchers wanted to find out why people did not lose the weight that's predicted they'll lose when they follow a reduced-calorie diet. All the studies completed during the last 50 years failed to show weight loss as predicted.
The research confirmed this method failed. Why? Because people do not reduce their food intake to match the calorie reduction that is recommended to them. They simply failed to maintain the calorie reduction.
How's this possible? Because low-calorie diets that are also low-fat lead to hunger.
What's the solution? The solution is a carbohydrate-restricted diet. But the low-carb diet was tried by more than 30 million Americans during the last five years. It failed for two main reasons: Dr. Atkins's plan is full of fatal flaws and the food companies conned people about "good" and "bad" carbs.
Quit being conned by the weight loss marketers and hucksters and this includes the medical doctors too. They hold too many false beliefs. Weight control is one of the easiest things on the planet to succeed in but you have to have the right ground rules.
