One of the fastest ways to get traffic to a website is to start a pay per click advertising campaign. There are a few things you need to consider before you do this however, and I want to talk about those in this article.

One Internet marketer that I have always trusted is Willie Crawford. He has been doing this for a number of years and comes across to me as a person who will tell the truth as opposed to someone who tell you what he thinks you want to hear. I suppose he would never make it in politics!

Anyway I read something once by Willie where he said one thing that is not talked about very often is how most pay per click advertising campaigns are not profitable. He doesn't list an actual percentage, but the fact that he would make that statement is a sobering thought at the very least.

What if 50% of all pay per click campaigns are not profitable? What does that mean to you? What if 90% of all pay per click campaigns are not profitable? Would it matter to you if you are in the 10% of those that were!

The bottom line is pay per click advertising is tricky until you get a system down. All you really care about is the return on your investment. The bottom line is how much are you making versus how much you are spending to get it.

You can control this to a certain extent by the keywords that you bid on. You do not necessarily have to bid on the most expensive words to drive traffic to your site via a PPC campaign.

As a matter of fact, one way to become more profitable is to bid on less expensive words and bid on more of them. Then you really have to analyze what is going on within your campaign to ensure that you are making more money than you are spending on a monthly basis.

There are certain things you must monitor on an ongoing basis including, what the competition is bidding, the number of actual clicks through that you are getting on your ad, are you overbidding unnecessarily, and various other things.

The bottom line is many pay per click campaigns are not profitable because they are not managed correctly to begin with. Sitting and waiting for organic search results to kick in and driving traffic in other ways may not give you the fast results that you want.

Therefore, you must do whatever is necessary to make sure your ppc campaign is profitable, so you can continue to get immediate traffic from it.

One way links are links that point to your site from others, but which are not linked to from your website. Google and many other search engines include link popularity as part of the way they evaluate and rank websites. Links are seen as a positive "vote" towards the quality of the website. As such, the more links from other relevant websites to yours, the better.
