The best ski resorts in Switzerland

There are lots of fantastic ski resorts in Switzerland, but some of them are better than others. There aren't many places to ski that are more beautiful that Switzerland, and the plethora of ski resorts there make a ski trip to this country one that you will always remember and always cherish.

Grindelwald

Grindelwald is located in the Bernese Oberland, and is similar to an actual city, although its main purpose is for skiing. There are lots of bars and restaurants, as well as discos and shopping opportunities. Also, there are lots of places to stay that are actually affordable. In fact, Grindelwald is one of the most affordable ski resorts in Switzerland. Also, Grindelwald is fantastic base camp, because it is only a short distance from other ski resorts.

Gstaad/Saaneland

Another great area for skiing is located in the Bernese Oberland. Gstaad and Saaneland are great places to ski, with fantastic slopes. However, you will be lucky to find cheap places to stay here - most of the accommodations are very expensive. The skiing in this area is best for beginners and also for intermediate skiers.

Murren

Murren is another place for skiing in Switzerland. It is located above the Lauterbrunnen Valley in the Bernese Oberland. You can only get to this ski resort by cable car, so it is completely free of traffic and full of chalet-style architecture. It is completely isolated, so you can feel free to be at peace and truly get away for your ski vacation. However, due to its isolation, Murren can be more expensive than other ski resorts.

Verbier

This is the best ski resort in French speaking Switzerland. It is also one of the most fun - with a completely fun filled atmosphere. Although it is located in a French speaking area, most of the resorts were designed to accommodate people from England, so speaking English won't be a major problem. This resort is favoured by athletes, because it does have many difficult slopes.

Zermatt

Another great ski resort in Switzerland is Zermatt. This is located in the southwest. It is actually at the foot of the Matterhorn, which makes the surrounding scenery even more beautiful. The resort itself has strict building codes, which means that you will hardly ever see a modern looking building within the resort. The skiing is also fantastic, so no matter what happens you'll have a fantastic time at Zermatt.
