Mostly you will find the differences are within the licensing requirements that will vary a considerable amount for each path you might choose.

Usually the therapist will develop the a treatment plan and see to it that it is carried until all goals are completed. The treatments usually focus on improving mobility as well relieving pain anfd then restoring mobility.

A therapist determines a patients ability to be independent and be able to re-assume his duties at work as well as at home. The therapist will also explain the expected outcomes and benefits to the patient.

After all of the above he must also be able to pass a licensing exam in order to become a licensed practicing physical therapist.

The assistants are the ones who carry out the plan according to what the physical therapist has pre-determined to be needed by each patient under his/her care. Usually a combination of several stimulations, exercises, massages, electrical stimulations, paraffin baths, hot and cold packs, traction and ultrasound.

In order to become an assistant Therapist you need to have earned an associate degree from an accredited physical therapist program. Which requires algebra, anatomy, psychology, biology, and chemistry. The aides work under the discretion of the Therapist and his assistant.
