6 Steps Towards Starting An Affiliate Marketing Online Business

A lot of people around the world are making money by promoting affiliate marketing programs on the Internet. You could be one of them because starting your own affiliate marketing online business is a very easy thing to do. Let's look over a few of the things that you'll need to do to get started as an affiliate marketer.

1. Firstly, you will need to pick a target market and a niche within that market that you want to specialize in.

It is a much better idea to identify a niche market as a first step before deciding on a product to sell, because your first priority is to discover a niche market that is popular and dynamic enough for you to make money out of. Also, it will be much easier to find some good products once you have chosen your niche as it will help you to concentrate and narrow down the huge choice of products. In that way, it is much more likely that you will uncover a great product for your market.

I suggest that you should try to work in a niche market which you are deeply interested in, or where you have some expertise

2. Now you have found your niche, the search for the best products to sell within that particular market can begin. Make use of online directories such as CJ.com or AssociatePrograms.com in order to seek out products to sell in your chosen market.

Choose a handful of products that appeal to you and then decide which one would be the best product to market. I recommend that you actually purchase the product so that you can try it out and learn all about it.

3. The next step is to write a series of promotional messages about the product, subscribe to an autoresponder service and plug the messages into it. It will help you to write your newsletters if you look at the promotional material that the affiliate merchant gives you. You could also contact the merchant to request more information.

The easiest way to write your copy is to describe the detailed product information you received from the affiliate merchant and show how it will benefit your readers. If the affiliate merchant has some pre-written messages, you could simply load them straight into your autoresponder or edit and rewrite them so that they suit your own campaign requirements. If you buy the product as I recommended earlier, you will be able to write about it from the customer's point of view as someone who has the experience of using it.

4. The most successful affiliate marketing online business campaigns do not send prospects straight to the affiliate sales page. Prospects are first directed to a lead capture page. After prospects have gone through your lead capture page and signed up to your newsletter you can send them to your affiliate sales page. They will now begin to receive your newsletter and in each newsletter you can gently present them with your offer while at the same time offering them a lot of useful and interesting information to maintain their interest in receiving messages from you.

Bear in mind that not so many people buy a product the first time they see it. You will need to warm them up to the benefits of the product before you can expect them to purchase. That is why it is so important that you get them to agree to give your their email address. If they give you their permission to contact them you will be able to send them several posts about the product over a period of time. It may take several posts to generate a sale, but the fact is that repeated messages work. In many cases they lead to a higher percentage of sales conversions.

5. Now you need to set up a website and place your landing pages and squeeze pages on it. If you want a completely free alternative to a website, you could simply start a blog and use it to post your sales pages.

6. Steps 1-5 were really the preliminary set up stage. The sixth step is the one you should spend most of your time on. Step six involves driving traffic to your lead capture page. In order to market your product effectively you will need to generate traffic. To do that you'll want to learn a little bit about the various forms of traffic generation such as article marketing, pay per click, blogging, advertising on ezines, press releases, traffic exchanges, and so on.

It is probably a good idea to concentrate on one form of traffic generation at a time until you are able to generate a large flow of prospects with it. Following the six steps I have briefly outlined is the best way to start an affiliate marketing online business if you want to succeed.
