We all slow down as we get older and computers seem to be in the same boat --but for different reasons. When you get your shiny new computer and first start it up it goes like a champion race horse. You flip almost instantly from one website to another without hesitation. Then one day--maybe it takes a year or two-- you begin to notice that things are slowing down. It takes longer and longer for the computer to start up. Moving from one website to another isn't instant anymore. As time goes by it gets slower and slower.
What is wrong? Why is that once fast computer now crawling along at a snails pace? Well in most cases the answer is quite simple-- your registry is bloated and loaded with unecessary junk. What is your registry? To put it very simply it is a databank of information which the operating system uses to run the computer and perform the tasks you ask it to do. All Windows computers since Windows 95 have a registry.
Over a period of time the registry becomes corrupted by thousands of fragments of unwanted junk. There are pieces of programs which were not completely uninstalled, pieces of programs which were never completely installed, useless drivers and shortcuts and a host of other items. You very likely have some spyware in there also, which has been installed unknown to you and which is carrying on anonymous business behind the scenes. In short your registry is full of pieces of junk data which the operating system must pick its way through to carry out its work of running the computer.
The presence of all these fragments of junk can slow down your computer hugely and may lead to freezing problems also. The solution to this problem is to remove the junk from your registry. How are you going to accomplish this? Every Windows computer has a function called regedit installed which you can use for this purpose. So long as you know which items you cannot remove and which items should be removed you will have no problems. Just delete the items you want to remove and thats it. Its really simple. Or is it? Do you know which items must remain in the registry. If you remove them you may put your computer completely out of action. They are essential for its operation. Other items may be necessary to run some of your programs. Do you know which is which? If not it would be unwise to attempt a registry cleanup yourself.
There is help at hand however. A number of companies offer registry cleaning applications on the intenet. We have tried most of them and found that they all do a reasonable job but some are better than others in performance and ease of use. All of these programs will do a fair job of cleaning your registry but they are good, better and best. You can surf the internet to see what is available in registry cleaners or check with us to see what we found best. You can have a free scan from some of the applications on the internet to tell you what your problems are, then you can decide what you want to do about it.
