If we ever expect to receive good things from the Father, we must come into His presence from a position of Life and Holiness. Only the Living can come before the Lord and expect good things, and those who claim to be alive must demonstrate freedom from death by being Holy, not by our own righteousness, but rather the righteousness of Christ.

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6, NKJV)

... Your word is truth. (John 17:17, NKJV)

If we are ever expect to have our prayers answered, we must be in agreement with the the Truth that is revealed in the Scriptures (Bible). The Lord is so identified with the Spirit of Truth, that He claims to be Truth (since the Lord is literally permeated by the Seven Spirits of God, He can rightfully claim to be any, and even all of Them simultaneously). If we attempt to circumvent the Truth of God's nature and character as revealed in the Bible, we are trying to ask God to do something for us that He has already rejected. But Truth by Herself is not enough, we must also obtain Wisdom from the Lord:

For the LORD gives wisdom ... Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path. (Proverbs 2:6-9, NKJV)

Wisdom ... will bring you honor, when you embrace her. She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will deliver to you." (Proverbs 4:7-9, NKJV)

Look again at those verses. Not only does the Lord give Wisdom to those who actively seek Her, but Wisdom will cause you to know how to grow in power with both man and God. Isn't that what everyone wants, to know how to act and pray to obtain our desires? It is by knowledge of the Truth that we apprehend the character and plans of God, but it is by Wisdom that we apprehend the power and the hand of God. If you want to have your prayers move the hand of God, you MUST continually seek Truth AND Wisdom. If either one is missing, you probably will be asking for something outside the Lord's will, and you will very likely not receive what you ask for.

I am amazed by those who attempt to manipulate God by using His Own words against Him. Of course, those words are virtually always taken out of context, and sometimes manipulated in such a way as to say the exact opposite of what the Lord has actually said. These same people then get mad at God because He refuses to be manipulated. If that is not bad enough, they allege that God isn't trustworthy since He doesn't uphold the misinterpretation they have created. How foolish can people be?

God will only act on what He has actually said, not what some fool attempts to finesse into the Lord's mouth. If you want the Lord to act on your behalf, it must be on His terms, not yours. Only when your requests actually line up with the revealed word of God will the Lord ever contemplate granting your requests. You need to learn Who God is, what He has said, fill your mind with the Truth of His word, and use genuine Wisdom in approaching God. DO NOT attempt manipulate the Lord God!

I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. (Jeremiah 17:10, NKJV)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. (Colossians 3:16-17, NKJV)

  • Freedom's Limits (Phillip Ross)
Against the tide of unrestrained freedom, Paul argued for caution and restraint. Here and elsewhere Paul argued that freedom in Christ did not mean that Christians were free to do whatever they wanted to do, even if there was nothing ultimately wrong with some particular action. But rather, Christians were free in Christ to live in obedience to Christ, free to care for and model behavior suited to the least discerning of Christ's people.

  • Saint Elizabeth of Hungary and four years of suffering (Bob and Penny Lord)
Elizabeth's spiritual director began a program of stripping Elizabeth of all that she had known, material possessions which had never been considered luxurious by her or her family.

Accounts of Anna Maria Taigi and false prophets. A religious, known for his sanctity, believed that he had had a vision of two Angels who assured him his ambitious project was of Divine origin and would bear much fruit. When he told this to Anna Maria, she smiled sadly and gently informed him it would fail miserably. It did!

  • Morality and Maturity (Phillip Ross)
False gods are powerless because they are not real. And yet, people falsely believe they are real, and establish very real and destructive behaviors on that false basis. Consequently, the more mature are bound by the weaknesses of the less mature as a matter of service to the weaker brothers.
