If you have been considering launching your brand into Mexico, now is an excellent time to check out the market. EXPO Alimentaria, one of Mexico's largest food and beverage trade show is scheduled for June at the Centro Banamex in Mexico City. The show provides an excellent opportunity for the new comer to walk the aisles and see first hand some of the products being sold, the level of professionalism Mexico has to offer and the hundreds of fortune 500 companies that already have a foot or two in the Mexican market.

Last year the show was an absolute success. There was representation of brands from all over the globe. This year the turn out is expected to top out 11,000 visitors with over 450 exhibitors. An interesting fact about the show, almost 50% of all exhibitors are foreign.

It is expected that this year over 60% of all visitors will come to the show looking to fulfill their food service needs, searching for everything from equipment to the basic ingredients. I am sure this year's visitors will be very pleased. EXPO Alimentaria is really doing a great job at attracting the right combination of exhibitors. You will find products from both the food and beverage sectors and with products from all over the world. Today's Mexican entrepreneur is looking to improve their service and differentiate themselves from the rest. These shows bring the world to the neighborhood for a few days.

As an exhibitor you can expect to run into buyers from some of Mexico's largest retail giants; Wal-Mart, Gigante, Comercial Mexicana, Soriana as well as the thousands of grocery and beverage wholesalers. Here they gather to see what's hot and what's not. They also look for new products and suppliers and it's a great way to meet the decision makers and spend face to face time with them.

Mexico has a territory of 1,972,550 Square Kilometers. That's is 896,614 Square Miles. Mexico is a federal constitutional republic (states have a constitution and government like the USA), consisting of 31 states and a federal district, Mexico City (Ciudad de México), is one of the most populous cities on Earth covering almost 2 million square kilometers, Mexico is the 6th largest country in America by total area and 15th largest in the world. With a population of about 107 million, it is the 11th most populous country and the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world. As the only Latin American member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) since 1994, Mexico is firmly established as an upper middle-income country. It has very little unemployment and a growing working class population.

Mexico has a free market economy, and is firmly established as an upper middle-income country with the highest per capita income in nominal terms in Latin America, and it is the 13th largest economy as measured in Gross Domestic Product in purchasing power parity. After the 1994 economic debacle, Mexico has made an impressive recovery, building a modern and diversified economy. Recent administrations have also improved infrastructure and opened competition in seaports, railroads, telecommunications, electricity generation, natural gas distribution and airports.

Mexico has and will always be an important and strategic market for any food or beverage product for anywhere in the world. It is also the gateway to sell to the rest of Latin America. Actually, the greater Mexico City, with it's almost 30 million inhabitants, it's referred many times as the capital of Latin America.
