Because it forms a barrier between your internal organs and the external environment, skin participates in many vital functions of the body and is an indispensable structure for human life.

The outer surface consists of stratified layers of dead, "keratinized" cells that form an effective protective covering against the penetration of noxious substances from the outside environment. The protective function is further enhanced by the oily and slightly acid secretions of the sebaceous glands, which discourage the growth and multiplication of many harmful bacteria.

Underlying this tough outer layer, or the epidermis, are the dermis and subcutaneous tissues that, far from being homogeneous, are composed of a multitude of tissues, supported and maintained in proper relation to one another by means of fibrous and elastic connective tissue.

One very obvious sign of poor skin health is wrinkling.

Although wrinkles are more often associated with the dermatological clock of the skin, they can still occur as the result of external harmful effects on the skin. One such damaging effect is that of prolonged exposure to the sun, which can prematurely age your skin. Experts agree that wearing sun-screen is essential, even if you don't think the sun is very strong.

However, wrinkles are also brought about by the loss of fatty tissues in the skin's innermost layer. Usually, wrinkles appear when the skin loses its elasticity and firmness. As well as being brought about by the harmful effects of the sun it can be caused by other environmental factors.

Although the skin has the natural ability to heal itself, it still needs some help from other substances that should be contained in good skin products. Hence, medical and skin experts contend that, in conjunction with skin protection, applying topical skin products is vital for the skin's regeneration process.

A good skin-care product will contain substances that help the skin to regenerate its lost fatty tissues and elasticity (elastin). These special components target specific areas in order to stimulate the skin to produce collagen and elasticity. These two elements of the skin are the ones responsible for the restoration of the innate moisturizing ability of the skin.

However, not all skin products are created equal. There are some factors that need to be considered when choosing skin products that will best work for wrinkles. Here are some of them:

1. Choose skin products that contain the necessary components to work best on wrinkles.

There are many skin products that are made to remove wrinkles. However, not all of them are created equal. It is best to choose skin products that contain elastin, essential oils and anti-oxidants such as the grape seed, that will help rehydrate the skin's natural moisture.

2. Choose a skin product that contains Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is not only good for the bones and teeth but also for the skin. It is known to produce collagen, known to contribute to the skin's strength. Moreover, Vitamin C has long been proven to fight and prevent wrinkles. It helps to counteract skin ruptures caused by the harmful rays of the sun. As well as obtaining Vitamin C (and other nutrients) from your diet, it can be absorbed directly through skin.

3. So it is best to choose skin product that can be easily absorbed by the skin.

One of the factors that will affect the efficiency of the skin products is its ability to penetrate quickly into the skin. It is best if it can seep through the innermost layer of the skin. So even if the skin product contains most of the necessary ingredients needed to cure wrinkles, if it does not penetrate easily into the skin, the whole treatment is useless. It has to work its way thoroughly inside the skin in order to produce the lost elements due to damage.

4. Protect your skin from the sun.

Wearing a sun-screen regularly is essential, but don't assume that any skin-care product contains a sun-screen unless it specifically says that it does.

5. Your skin-care product should be hypoallergenic.

Not all skin products are created equal and in the same way, not all skins are the same. There are some individuals whose skin is really sensitive and using certain products can generate adverse reactions. If you have a sensitive skin ensure that the product you select contains hypoallergenic materials or natural substances that will work safely on the skin. In any case, you should always test a new product on a small area of skin to check for a bad reaction, before using regularly.

It is true that you can never wash away years but good skin products can help the skin rejuvenate itself and improve your youthful looks.
