Remodeling and upgrading the bathrooms in your home are an excellent way to add value to your home. A bathroom makeover will improve the salability of your home more than any other home improvement project. Add attractive bathroom tile design elements and you will definitely have a winner.

Tile has become one of the most popular home improvement upgrades being done today. Replacing the once popular linoleum, tile offers longevity and easy maintenance as well as the ability to create a look that is unique. When remodeling a small bathroom, there are important bathroom tile design considerations that will make a difference in the finished results.

A small bathroom can easily look crowded and uninviting. Many homeowners struggle as they attempt to turn a small guest bathroom into an attractive and inviting space. Using the right design and decorating techniques it is possible to make a small bathroom look bigger and to avoid the claustrophobic feel.

When planning your small bathroom makeover it is essential to consider two basic bathroom tile design elements. First the tile you choose for your bathroom should be a light color. Dark colors used for the walls, floor, or fixtures will make the room appear small and cramped. Use tile colors that are as close to white as possible. Slight hints of color are fine if they are pale, pink, or tan, but the basic background color of the tile should be white.

Most homeowners who are remodeling a small bathroom believe that you should use a tiny, one inch tile in a small bathroom, but this is not the case. Using a bathroom tile design that is based around one inch tiles will make the room appear smaller, particularly if the design includes colored or dark tiles.

The old fashioned white and black tiled floors once used in old homes are a tempting choice when you are choosing a bathroom tile design. But it is the wrong choice. Instead choose a medium to large sized tile for a small bathroom. The goal is to keep your tile design simple and uncomplicated.

This should be the goal in the entire bathroom makeover project. Keeping a small bathroom light in color and simple in design and décor will make the room appear more spacious. Adding lighting fixtures that are limited in size but that produce plenty of light will reflect off a white tile floor and improve the looks of the area. Replace old fashioned light bulbs with new energy efficient natural light bulbs and bring the feel of outdoor lighting into a small bathroom that does not have a window.

The bathroom tile design that you choose for your bathroom will have a bigger impact on the room than you might imagine. Take your time to consider the space, the lighting, the walls, and cabinet options and bring it all together with a well chosen tile for the floor.
