Having read or heard news about how con artist are looking to scam consumers out of their money or private information is really very alarming and a very large problem. Your email is under constant attack from these con artists. Is there a way to be secured when opening marketing e-mails? Below are some tips on how to ensure security as far as e-mail marketing is concerned:

Using just one account. Making a few e-mail accounts is an effective way of ensuring your e-mail security. You should have at least three (3). One for your personal contacts. Another for work related e-mails. Another one for subscriptions to ads and newsletters. Having these different e-mail accounts will help you separate the important e-mails from the not so important ones. You can also have a back-up e-mail once your other e-mail accounts have been spammed.

Forgetting to log-out of your account.

Making sure that you have properly logged out from your e-mail or social site accounts is one way of having your e-mail secured. There would be instances that you would need to use public or shared computers to check your emails. Just double-check everything. You can't completely blame the next user if he is tempted to browse your e-mail account. It is negligence on your part that caused this. Also make sure you uncheck the "remember" me box when you are using a public computer

Delete cache, history, and passwords.

Deleting the cache, history and passwords is another way of protecting yourself when using public computers. It is actually easy and fast. Just open the Internet Options of the Internet Explorer Browser. If you are using Mozilla, then go to Tool and click on Clear Private Data.

Don't send sensitive information through e-mail

It is a common knowledge that hackers are very intelligent people. It is up to you to make sure you do not become a victim. Information can be hacked easily. So it is really important that don't use your e-mail to send out very confidential information, may it be personal or business matters.

Use the CC and the BCC options carefully.

The use of CC and BCC can be very confusing. They differ from each other when it comes to visibility. When you use CC to send the same e-mail to a group of people, all the recipients would see all the e-mail addresses the mail was forwarded to, thus making the other recipients prone to spammers. It is advisable to just use the BCC or blind carbon copy when sending out e-mail to a number of people.

Do not interchange the "reply" and "reply all" option.

Be very careful when replying to an e-mail because you might make the mistake of hitting the "reply all" button instead of the "reply" button. By doing so, the message intended for a specific person will be sent out to all the e-mail addresses saved in your account. It will cause a big problem when everybody read the message that should have been for a specific recipient only.

Responding to an e-mail without verifying its source.

You might have encountered some of these e-mails:

- You have won a prize or money.

- We are offering you an opportunity to earn huge profit.

- We would like to request for your bank details to confirm something

Actually, there are a lot more schemes and scams happening on the web. Of course, you would be very excited to open and read the whole message. But beware! You have to think first if you have joined any contest or raffles in the past. If yes, then, you should contact the company directly and ask if you really won. If it is about your finances, then contact your bank or credit card company. Delete the message immediately if you are not sure about who the sender is.

Using obvious passwords.

Always bear in mind that you should never use birthdays and names of you and/or your family as your passwords just because you can easily remember them. You can put your identity at risk by doing so. It would be easy for hackers to guess what your password is especially if they know a lot of things about you. Better use passwords that is difficult to guess and track. Worrying that you might forget them? Jot it down in a notebook and be sure to keep it in a safe place (preferably in your house) that no one else knows but you.
