Can you hear Popeye the Sailor Man say the words, "I Yam What I Yam." He was always saying those because he did not want to perceive himself as being someone who he really was not. After all he wanted Olive Oil to like him for who he was not for anything else. Brutus was the fake, remember. Popeye believed if he was himself then he would have more success than faking it.
It is very obvious there are fakes in this world of online marketing. I am not sure who the person is that quoted this paragraph, but it has stuck with me ever since I read it. So let me just say it is "unknown". At least it is to me. Here it is:
"We trust those we believe to have our interests at heart, and we distrust those we believe to have their interests at heart. But we particularly distrust those who pretend to be the former, while behaving like the latter."
I am constantly on the alert for individuals that want to portray themselves as big time marketers making hundreds and thousands of dollars with just the click of the button and no work. There are people who plan on getting into Internet marketing, especially those who plan on getting into the "make money online" niche who are told to "fake it until you make it" in order to make sales. What I mean is they think they can present themselves as making lots of money by faking it until they have enough individuals on the internet believing them and hopping on their bandwagon.
Once they have the numbers following them, then it will turn into sales of their chosen product. You really don't have to worry too much because there are more of the honest and down to earth individuals saying and doing the honest things in marketing than vice versa. However, I think it is important to point out the not so professional group as well.
The trouble I fear is that too many companies and individuals are more interested in how they will profit from acting like they are focused on you the client; when really they could care less. Most people don't enjoy doing business with this kind of individual online or offline.
Well, regardless of which side of the fence you fall, in regard to this issue, the bottom line is this. People will recognize you for who you really are. So it is very important for you to not try to fake it until you make it, but to make it in a legitimate way.
In that regard, I can say as Popeye said, "I Yam What I Yam", and nothing more or less. I am a marketer of 12 years doing like so many others are doing and that is trying to make a living on the internet. I can honestly say I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars learning what to do and not to do online. It is also very important to use the best marketing tools available.
In the final end if you operate your business online in the same way that Popeye The Sailor Man operated his life you can truthfully say," I Yam What I Yam", and you will have much more success, than if you try to do like some do and that is " Fake it , until you make."
