"Bodacious, is that even a word?" I've been asked. Absolutely! The dictionary definition of bodacious includes descriptors like bold, outstanding, and courageous. I define it as "the courage to be in charge of your life." I love the word bodacious because it captures a positive spirit of freedom, choice and being all you can be.
Do you want feel more bodacious and wonder how? It's easier than you may have thought! My personal experience has convinced me that in the journey of becoming a Bodacious Woman, the place to start is on the inside. And, once you're there, you'll find that you already have a little (and maybe a TON of) bodaciousness to start with.
Being bodacious - I mean really feeling, thinking, and being bodacious - is an inside out process. All the how-to advice in the world about how to get what you want in your life doesn't matter if you're not willing to take it in and let it move you. If you truly want to become more bodacious, you have to be willing to consider a new way of thinking, listen to what your inner voice says about it, and be open to what's blocking you from making a change. In your heart of hearts you know that if you are internally signed-up for changing your behavior. But when you do sign-up, watch out! You've just empowered the Bodacious Woman within and she's loving it!
Sometimes I hear the comment that being bodacious is all tied to an extraverted personality. Not true! Your personality will always give your bodaciousness personal flavor, but if you've not a big extrovert, don't worry. Introvert or extrovert, you know when you're acting in a way that's personally empowering. You know when you're having a BoMo (bodacious moment). And in that moment, you're like a walking exclamation point!
The great part is that we all have a little bodaciousness already going for us! Seriously. It's just a matter of deciding to recognize it, nurture it, and let it grow. For some it may mean making a big change that we've been debating for a while. For many the changes will appear less dramatic. Ordering something totally different at a restaurant. Starting a conversation with your boss' boss in the lunch room. Expressing a different viewpoint at the volunteer meeting. Though these actions may not seem life-changing, they are! Exerting yourself in these seemingly small ways has a tremendous impact over time about how you see yourself. Others will also notice the Bodacious Woman in you taking shape, too! Don't be surprised if they love what they see!
So, becoming a Bodacious Woman isn't hard. You only need the courage to look within. When you begin to muster that courage and look honestly at who you are and who you want to be, you'll find you have more strength inside that you may have thought. Plus, you'll find that spark of spunk called bodacious just waiting for you to ignite. "All life is an experiment" said Ralph Waldo Emerson. May the experiment be a doozy!
