Learning how to properly research a market before you enter it would be a good idea to say the least. What you might not know is that the internet, and all the tools available, have already done all the market research for us. We just simply have to crunch the numbers to see if a particular niche is going to be profitable or not. Here's what I mean.
There are multi-million dollar companies online that have done exhaustive research and compiled hoards of information and have compiled them in statistical categories for anyone to view. The purpose of doing so was not to benefit us internet marketers, rather to make it easier for their customers to find a helpful and useful product easier.
Amazon for example is one of the best websites that internet marketers can use to tell if they should go into a certain niche or not.
Amazon is the largest reseller of retail books in the world. They categorize all of their books and break them down into specific niches and sub niches on the left hand side. We can scan through those niches to see just what books are selling the best. Amazon ranks their books in order from best selling to worst.
When I do my market research, the first thing I do is go to Amazon just to see if there are any good books in the niche I am researching in. If I find that there are a number of really hot books in that niche, then I will most likely be able to sell an E book online for that same niche. If the books are selling offline, there is no reason why they shouldn't be able to sell online.
The next thing I do after I realize that there are books in my niche that are selling very well, I'll need to see just how popular the niche is online. I do this by using Googles free Adwords Keyword tool and type in what I think would be the most popular keyword or word phrases into the tool.
If the results from that search show plenty of results that are gaining 1,000 or more monthly searches, then I might have found a niche worth pursuing.
The last thing I do to test the market is check the competition of those keywords. I do this by entering the keywords into Google's search engine using quotations. This will give me the exact search results for that particular keyword or keyword phrase. If I find a bunch of those keywords that result in 20,000 or less results, then I know I can get plenty of traffic to my website and it is then worth pursuing.
Market research on the internet is fairly easy to do and you can literally find a hot niche in just a few minutes of research. There are plenty of other ways online to see how hot a niche might be. Do some searching and find your million dollar niche!
