As an affiliate internet marketer, one of the biggest mistakes that you can make is not building an email list of your own. An email list of subscribers is the basis of any online based business as this is where the majority of your sales will come from.

Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest methods to use for anyone who wants to start an internet based home business as there is no need to find your own product. All you need to do is research the internet for a couple of good legitimate products, sign up as an affiliate and you are in business.

There are a few points that are extremely important to consider and in this article we will discuss some of them:

1. Even as an affiliate it is worth your while to have a website of your own from which you can promote the products of your choice. This gives you far more freedom and you will be able to have multiple streams of income that you can promote and prosper from.

2. Many affiliates will send traffic that they have generated directly to affiliate links rather than to a list. By doing this they believe that these visitors will make a purchase on the first contact. This is unfortunately very seldom the case.

Most visitors do not purchase anything on the first contact; in fact it has been proven that it normally can take anything up to seven contacts before the average buyer will make buy anything.

Very often your will find that they will require more information about the product and their method of getting this info is through more visits to find out if this product is something that they are really interested in and whether or not they really want it.

This is where an email list becomes invaluable. By building a list of your own subscribers you will be able to follow up on these prospects and get to know them and build a relationship with them so that they will know and trust you.

People generally are happier buying things from someone they feel they can trust and an internet based home business is no than any other kind, you still need to sell products to people you are not selling to computers and the human touch is still important.

3. In order to build a list of subscribers the one thing that is necessary is to have an auto responder because in this way you can automate a large part of the process by setting up a series of follow-up emails that will be sent to anyone who opts in to your subscriber list.

A service like this will not only manage your list for you but it will also help you to build it. A good auto responder service will usually include a range of services such as spam checkers and tools that allow you to create web forms and opt in forms which will all increase your opt in rate.

So once you have your website and auto responder organized all you need do is find some legitimate affiliate products that you would like to sell and begin to market and promote them by sending visitors to a landing page where they can opt in to your subscriber list and from there to your own website and your chances of building a great online income business will increase tenfold.
