There isn't a marriage or relationship that doesn't go through a hard time at one point or another. It's never rosy and smooth-going all the time. Therefore, you may need help in your relationship at some point in time. There are a lot of factors responsible for the negative impacts on marriages. However, you can acquire or learn some skills/ virtues that can help you unravel the puzzles in healthy ways. There are keys that can help you achieve a lasting marriage.

If you notice a looming problem in your relationship, don't pretend everything is fine. Don't overlook the present issues and impending problems. Take the necessary steps immediately and make the required adjustments that will get your relationship back on track and make your marriage an "Until death do us part" affair"!

What are the requisite ingredients that guarantee a long lasting union? Successful and long-lasting marriages have features and qualities that enable the partners to go through turbulent times and the good times together. One of the keys to an enduring relationship is maintaining a flexible and positive attitude. Another key is the readiness to strike a balance in your activities (not letting one thing suffer because of another) and more importantly, being open with each other and also having the willingness to adjust or make changes when necessary.

To achieve a successful and long-lasting union, you must also learn to build effective communication between each other. This is beyond mere talking. The ability to listen to your spouse with your heart and not let anything distract you is a good skill that can maintain and sustain a healthy relationship. For instance, it's not a good practice to have your eyes glued on the television set or a magazine when your partner is trying to talk to you. You should pay attention and return to whatever you were doing after.

The use of proper words and phrases helps in the building of relationships and marriages. Words or phrases such as I'm sorry, please, dear, I love you, forgive me, and, it's my fault, etc., are brief but powerful words that can soften your partner's heart. Avoid words that are associated with blame and words that generate strife and squabbles. Learn to always resolve issues in your marriage as soon as they arise. Don't postpone or pile up issues while grievously nursing them in your mind. Face issues squarely as they arise, but in a gentle and conservational manner. This helps clear up the atmosphere and re-establish love in the home.

Don't use sex to punish your partner. This is very dangerous as it can create an opportunity for infidelity and cheating. Address your partner's fault by calling attention to the supposed wrong-doing and move on with your sex and love life without any interference. Also learn to create quality time for each other. Do things together, such as eating, walking, swimming, etc., and learn to appreciate each other always.

There are other things you can do along with these basic and major keys to have a long- lasting marriage. If you work hard, you can achieve unparalleled success in your relationship.
