With companies laying people off and downsizing, not to mention the current economic woes felt around the world, more and more people are looking for ways to work at home. Many are looking for ways to make money with their computer. Internet marketing is one method of making money at home if one is careful to watch for the pitfalls.

One of the easiest ways to make money from home is to sell items at online auctions, such as Ebay. More than a few people have discovered that they can acquire items at yard sales and such that will fetch a handsome price at an online auction. Others have found companies that offer drop shipping services on items that one can sell and never even have to touch. Either choice works and there is a lot of money in these internet auctions.

Another method used by a lot of people to make money at home is through affiliate programs and MLM. One has to be very careful and do some research on these companies and programs to avoid scams. Some are just pyramid schemes that have no real potential for making money. Others are quite legitimate and profitable. One of the surest ways to tell the difference is the product test. If the site wants you to promote a real product first and the affiliate program second, the odds are it is a legitimate opportunity. If they want you to focus strictly on the number of people coming in under you, it's more likely to be a scam.

Many people have chosen to open their own online store. This is the hardest type of internet marketing and the most likely to pay off in the long run. It takes some research on your part, but you can locate a wholesale source for literally any product in the world if you take the time to look. Once you have product, you set up your website and domain name. Your store is now open for business. One of the most difficult aspects of operating an online store is the need to advertise it and drive traffic to it. This can be handled in several different ways, however, so that the site starts generating income fairly quickly.

The final type of internet marketing that people use to work at home is marketing a service or skill. The number of companies that want to hire people to work at home doing simple typing or data entry is phenomenal. Most want people to work on a contract basis on one project at a time because it costs less than hiring an hourly person to do the work. Several different websites offer assistance for companies and individuals to get together in freelance relationships that work to the benefit of both sides.
