Yeast infections are very common but they are very annoying. When you find yourself suffering from one, you think it will never end. You may be tired of the creams and pills and wonder if a yeast infection will go away by itself or if there are alternative treatments.
New medications are being developed constantly and it's becoming easier and quicker to get rid of a yeast infection. In this article we'll talk about how long does an infection last and at the end of the article you'll find out some other ways to get rid of this ailment.
A yeast infection is caused by the overgrowth of yeast in the body. The technical term is Candidiasis. When the pH level in our body changes this allows for the yeast that is already in our body to multiply. Our bodies don't have enough good bacteria to keep the yeast in check so it continues to multiply and become known as a yeast infection.
How long does a yeast infection last? Usually about a week and it can depend upon what you're doing to treat it. If you go much longer than a week and your symptoms have not started to subside, you should go see your doctor.
If this is your first infection you should definitely go see a doctor to get a definite diagnosis. If you've been through this before like many other women, you probably know what caused it and what you can do to treat it. If you're reluctant to use vaginal creams to relieve the discomfort and cure a yeast infection, there are many treatments for yeast infections using common household items.
There are over-the-counter medications that you can use that will reduce the length of time that you must suffer. Usually these medications take about three to seven days before everything is cleared up, but you usually start to feel relief after three days no matter what type of medication you use.
The yeast infection may go away on its own but you should do something to treat the symptoms and relieve the discomfort. To relieve some of the symptoms almost immediately you can take tea tree oil and put it on a tampon in place in the vagina for 20 minutes. Then rub some tea tree oil around the outside of the vagina for immediate relief. For a soothing relief, mix a cup of apple cider vinegar in a tub of warm water and relax for about 20 minutes.
By following one or more of these suggestions, you can treat the symptoms of a yeast infection and give it time to go away on its own. Some believe that an untreated yeast infection can lead to more serious problems. If you have discomfort for more than a week, make sure you go see your doctor. You may have something other than a yeast infection.
Many people feel a yeast infection will go away on its own. Others feel that you must get treatment before it gets worse. Find out how you can treat a yeast infection with homemade remedies.
