Nowadays even our homes are not safe from the danger that lurks around it. Thieves and burglars are always on the loose every now and then, waiting for the right opportunity to invade your home. Prevention is always better which is why we need to take steps to increase our home security. We can place our first line of defense on our driveway since it is the outermost part of our homes. So what exactly is a driveway alarm? It is an electronic device that usually consists of two parts, namely a sensor and a receiver. The sensor usually detects motion with the use of passive infrared or PIR, and then transmits signals to a compatible receiver. The receiver will usually emit an alarm sound, or a tone pre-set by the manufacturer.

A driveway alarm can easily be purchased in your local hardware or department store, and is easy to install and use since it runs on batteries and is also usually wireless these days.

There are places besides your driveway where you can install a driveway alarm. These are usually places that have blind spots or areas that are not seen or given attention much, and are perfect entry points for trespassers and burglars alike. These devices can easily recognize any unauthorized entry and forewarn the owner of any impending danger.

Most homes have a lawn or garden in their homes, and it is not uncommon to see valuables being left in that area like bicycles, lawn-mowers, toys and even cars. These valuables are a big temptation for burglars, and installation of a driveway alert will help protect them from being stolen. You might have surveillance cameras already installed in your home, but addition of a driveway alert device can heighten the security in your home.

Driveway alarms come in both wired and wireless types, but the wireless types are most popular since they are easier to use and install in almost any part of the house. Wired alarms require a little bit more work to install and might have higher maintenance costs as compared to others. Wireless alarms are usually much more reliable as they can be used even in power outages with their battery backup.

There are also some driveway alarm systems that features a visual display, which gives you a clear picture of your valuables or your loved ones no matter what part of the home they are in. Some models will even allow you to watch over your home even when you are not physically there.

Driveway alert systems are waterproof and designed to withstand extreme temperatures, which makes them perfect for the outdoor environment of your home. Whether its summer time or winter time, you are sure that your home is protected. These devices are even smart enough to determine whether the movement is coming from a small animal or an unauthorized person.

Our home's safety must always be taken into consideration at all times. A driveway alert device can give you peace of mind knowing that you have everything under control. You'll never know when danger will strike and it is best that we are always prepared.
