Here's a question that I get pretty frequently--When you're doing article submissions to drive traffic to your website, is it better to go the fast and furious route of submitting a truckload of articles all at one time, or is it more beneficial to have a submission schedule that is slow and steady, submitting a few articles each month for an extended period of time?

I am a believer of the 'slow and steady' movement, because to my mind the greatest asset of article marketing is its ability to affect your search engine ranking.

Yes, if you submit dozens of articles all in one day you will likely see a sudden upsurge in traffic for a few days, but that type of traffic is short term, and a rapid accumulation of links like that could hurt your SEO and website traffic in the long run.

It's been my experience that an article submission schedule that builds links consistently but gradually over an extended period of time has the most beneficial and long lasting results.

Can you achieve dramatic results with Article Marketing?

Yes, you definitely can, but you want dramatic results that LAST, and don't die out after a few days or weeks.

When done correctly (slow and steady), article submissions can drastically affect your search engine ranking for your keywords, and of course the higher you rank for your keywords the easier it is to build traffic dramatically for the long-term.

Let me just give you an example--last year I started a new article submission campaign and one of my goals was to get to the #1 or #2 position in Google and Yahoo for all of my keywords. For one of the keyword phrases that I was newly targeting, my site was ranked as low as #377 at the beginning.

After consistently submitting a few articles each month for a year, I achieved my goal-- I was able to grab the #1 slot for that keyword phrase for which I was once ranked #377.

Now that's a dramatic change!

And it's something that is maintainable, consistent, stable and not dependent on Herculean submission efforts.

Was the jump from #377 to #1 immediate?

No, SEO just doesn't work like that. Google appreciates a slow and steady accumulation of links, and website rankings are re-evaluated by search engines only every 3 or 4 months. So there is no "immediate" anything when it comes to SEO.

Over the course of that year that I was submitting articles, I did see a steady increase up the rankings, but to make a drastic leap from the 300's up to #1 took just about a year.

If you're interested in achieving results similar to mine, I'm happy to share some of my tips (and these are all easy and not technically challenging, I promise you):

=> Get into the habit of submitting articles each month. I submitted somewhere between 5-8 each month to reach my goals.

=> Space out the submissions. I recommend submitting no more than 2 articles a week, on different days. This helps links accumulate more gradually, and if you're using an article submission service it helps publishers not to be inundated with bunches of articles all at once.

=> Get a long range vision for what you can accomplish. Instead of thinking in terms of submitting an article here and another there, start to think in terms of an *article marketing campaign*. This big picture vision will help you keep your focus and momentum going in right direction.

=> Be patient :) Article marketing and SEO are long term endeavors, so push aside the idea that you can make a lasting difference in your website's traffic through one burst of submissions. Google just doesn't work like that. If you seriously want to impact your website's traffic and rankings, go slow and steady with your efforts. With SEO, consistent effort over an extended period of time is always the key.

Can you do this?

If you aren't an SEO expert and are just a regular person with a website, can you jump up the rankings of Google and the other search engines?

Most definitely, yes you can!

And it will not require an extensive amount of your time or money--just write a few articles each month, submit them consistently each and every month, and keep on doing that over the long haul.

A very simple action (article submissions) done repeatedly for an extended length of time can create a dramatic transformation in your website's traffic and search engine ranking.
