Writing free reprint articles for submission to article directories and other publishers is not brain surgery or anything, but it does require following some simple guidelines.

Quality publishers carefully screen each article to be sure the content will be useful to their readers and also to be sure the article is well-written and adhering to the publisher's guidelines. For this reason, it's important that each article that you submit is a quality article and that is also publisher-friendly.

Here are some basic tips to keep in mind when writing and submitting your articles:

1) Write articles on the topic of your niche.

For all of the articles you write, you will want to write them on the same topic as your website.

Article marketing is not just about building links--you want to be sure that the web pages linking that are being built to your website are on the same topic as your website, so that means writing articles on the same topic as your website. This helps Google and the other search engines categorize the content on your site, and it also helps build the keyword recognition for your site.

Another perk of writing article on the same topic as your website is that it allows you to demonstrate your expertise, and to become known as an expert in your field. Think about the people who will be reading your articles--if they come to think of you as an expert in your field, how much more likely will they be to turn to you when they need services such as yours?

The link going back to your website that you provide in your resource box will help with your search engine ranking for your keywords, but it's also a way for the reader of your article to get to your website. They read your article, find it useful, and then go to your website for more info. This is targeted traffic, meaning that the traffic you're receiving is from people who are interested in your topic.

2) Make your articles educational.

Free reprint articles should be educational and entirely free of self-promotion. In the article body, you will not try to convince the reader to your website or buy your products. That's what your resource box is for. The article body is for teaching purposes, and it allows you to show how knowledgeable you are on a certain topic. The resource box that accompanies your article is the spot where you can toot your own horn and try to lure readers back to your website.

3) Watch the word count on your articles.

Generally speaking, free reprint articles have word counts somewhere between 400-1500 words. If you want to have your article appeal to the widest spectrum of publishers, aim for the 700-800 word range. Why 700-800 words? Keep in mind that many publishers are using your articles in ezines, so there is a word count restriction to keep in mind if you'd like your article to be republished in ezines.

4) Ensure that your article is free of spelling and grammatical errors.

Proofread your article or have an eagle-eyed friend proofread it. Then let it sit for 24 hours or more and proofread it again. You can't be too careful when proofreading your articles. After you submit your article to a publisher, the article will go up on the article directory or website, and it is not always possible to make corrections to your article after that time. So, be sure that your article looks exactly as you'd like it to when you submit it!

5) A word about keywords...

You do not need to be technically advanced to use keywords in your article submissions. Many publishers will accept a HTML resource box, which will allow you to hyperlink your keywords or semantically related versions of your keywords. This hyperlinking of the keywords draws extra attention from Google, so it can be beneficial in showing search engines what keywords should be associated with your website and article.

One thing to be careful about though--do not hyperlink the same words every time. Mix it up, and use semantically related versions on your keywords (running shoes, runner's shoes, shoes for running, etc). If you use the same keywords all the time, then it may appear that you're trying to manipulate Google, which is not good. Switch things up and vary your keywords in your HTML resource box.

If you can write an email or a letter, you can most definitely write an article. It may take some getting used to at first, but trust me--you'll get the hang of things in no time. Write and submit article consistently to see a dramatic improvement in your search engine ranking and website traffic.

Submit your article to more publishers, and your article will receive more exposure. You'll also build more backlinks and drive more traffic to your website.
