You don't have to know the in's and out's of search engine optimization (SEO) and how Google works to implement a successful article marketing campaign, but if you ever get to the point of wanting to understand more about how Article Marketing interacts with Google, there are some more advanced strategies that you can take with your article writing.

Let's go over a few facts when it comes to SEO and marketing your website:

=> When you start a new website, where do your visitors come from?

You can receive visitors from multiple sources: article directories, websites that are linking to you, links to your site from an ezine, etc, but the main source of reliable traffic to your site will come from Google and the other search engines.

Google is like a switch board operator. In the olden days, when you wanted to make phone call you had to call the switch board and the operator would connect you to whoever you wanted to call.

It works the same with Google: Someone who wants to get into contact with a website like yours will call up Google and ask the search engine to connect them with a website that has a certain type of information on it.

This is why website owners work very hard to get higher rankings in Google. They know that with a higher ranking they will receive more traffic to their website.

=> Link building is the main way a website owner can elevate his site's search engine ranking.

'Search engine ranking' refers to where a particular website shows up in Google (or one of the other search engines) when specific search terms are typed into the search box. From a website owner's perspective, these search terms are called 'keywords'.

By building links into your site, you can get a higher search engine ranking for the keyword terms associated with your website. More links going into the site shows Google that your website has authority and that it's likely that your site contains valuable information to someone searching on your topic.

=> Article Marketing & Google

Article marketing builds links. Each time you submit an article to a publisher, your website receives a backlink (a link going back to your site). Every time your article is republished, you receive an additional backlink to your site via your resource box.

So, when you submit an article, the article can continue to 'pay you back' over time. Every time your article is republished, it is working for you.

=> How Can I Use SEO Knowledge In My Article Marketing Campaign?

Remember those keywords? Your goal is to rank highly for the keyword terms associated with your website. Keywords are the search terms that people who are interested in sites like yours are typing into Google.

In order to figure out what your keywords are, you need to do a little research.

STEP 1: Develop a list of 3-10 keywords. Competitive keywords are usually 2 words long (such as 'dog collars' or 'running shoes'). These will be your main keywords.

STEP 2: Develop a list of long-tail keywords. These are longer phrases that are 3-5 words long (such as 'red plaid dog collars' or 'off trail running shoes'.

These longer phrases are not 'competitive', meaning that they are so specific that a minority of folks are typing them into Google.

Still, they are being used and because of the lack of competition, it is easy to rank high for long-tail keyword terms.

STEP 3: Write articles with your keywords in mind.

=> Write on all aspects of your keywords and long tail keywords, tackling their topics from a different angle each time you write an article.

The end result will be that you've completely covered your niche with content specifically designed to satisfy searches that your target readers are doing. The more keywords you cover for your niche, the more opportunities for traffic from Google.

CONCLUSION:

It's all about writing articles to satisfy what the searchers are looking for. When you write content specifically to address searches that your target customers are doing, you start working hand-in-hand with Google, and it's like you've tapped into a secret weapon for leading readers to your website.
