Not long ago, I received a question from one of my newsletter subscribers that went something like this (I've edited out the personal details):

"Hi Tony Mase, I am faced with a rather complex situation. I agree 100% with everything I read in Wallace D. Wattles' book, but I am so deep in financial difficulty that whenever I try not to ponder on my circumstances I am constantly reminded of it by my creditors calling me."

"I find it very hard to develop my faith and put into practice what I have learned while I am in this position. I would just like to know what you would suggest? Thank you for making life so much easier."

When I first read this question, I was immediately reminded of a passage in Wallace D. Wattles' classic masterpiece, "The Science of Getting Rich":

"Every man has the natural and inherent power to think what he wants to think, but it requires far more effort to do so than it does to think the thoughts which are suggested by appearances. To think according to appearance is easy; to think truth regardless of appearances is laborious, and requires the expenditure of more power than any other work man is called upon to perform."

"There is no labor from which most people shrink as they do from that of sustained and consecutive thought; it is the hardest work in the world. This is especially true when truth is contrary to appearances. Every appearance in the visible world tends to produce a corresponding form in the mind which observes it; and this can only be prevented by holding the thought of the TRUTH."

"To look upon the appearances of poverty will produce corresponding forms in your own mind, unless you hold to the truth that there is no poverty; there is only abundance."

"... to think riches when in the midst of appearances of poverty, requires power; but he who acquires this power becomes a MASTER MIND. He can conquer fate; he can have what he wants."

A "master mind", by Wallace D. Wattles' definition, is one who can think what he or she wants to think, regardless of what's going on around them.

In answer to this reader's question, here are three powerful tips for becoming a financial "master mind" that'll help you conquer fate and have what you want:

Tip #1 - Eliminate distractions.

In this particular case, the first thing I'd suggest is to either change his telephone number to a private, unlisted telephone number, dead-end all his telephone calls into an answering machine or voice mail system and then check his messages as infrequently as possible, or turn off his telephone's ringer and just plain stop answering his telephone altogether.

Creditor calls distraction eliminated! :-)

Tip # 2 - Stop focusing on what you *don't* want.

There is a Creative Power within you that makes your life into the exact image of that to which you focus your attention.

Trying "not to ponder on my circumstances" is a bit like trying not to think about pink elephants...

The more you try *not* to think about pink elephants, the more you think about pink elephants, don't you?

And...

Since that's where your attention is focused...

"Pink elephants" are exactly what you'll have in your life.

So...

How do you *not* think about pink elephants?

Simple...

Think about blue elephants instead.

When you focus your attention on blue elephants, the pink elephants disappear all by themselves, don't they?

And...

Since that's where your attention is focused...

"Blue elephants" are exactly what you'll have in your life.

Thus...

Tip #3 - Stay focused on what you *do* want.

Clearly define the exact financial situation you want and imagine yourself as if you were already there.

Whenever you catch yourself thinking about "appearances", your perceived "circumstances", gently switch your thinking to your clear and definite mental experience of yourself already in the exact financial situation you want to be in.

Do this consistently and you'll find your financial "appearances" changing rather rapidly.

Remember...

You have the natural and inherent power to think what you want to think.

You can think what you want to think or you can think thoughts suggested to you by the people and things around you.

Thinking what you want to think will get you what you want.

Thinking thoughts suggested to you by the people and things around you will get you more of what you already have.

The choice is yours...

Make it a good one! :-)
