What happens when you are dealing with a breakup will depend upon whether you are the one being broken up with or the one doing the breaking up. The failed relationship will be harder on one than it is on the other. This is simply because the one who decides to move on has already done so in their mind. This is not something you just wake up one morning and decide - now is the time to end this relationship. It has been thought about plenty before becoming a reality.

Learn to cope with this ending by looking at it as a beginning. There are many things you can do to take your mind off your troubles. When you first break up with someone allow yourself the time it takes to grieve over your loss. No one expects you to be the happiest person in the room. The person who can let these feelings out and deal with them will recover more quickly.

Do not forget you have friends who can go places with you and get you out of the house. A little time alone to grieve is necessary but when it becomes months and months, something needs to be done. It is not good when the bills start piling up and you have no food in the house. The laundry has not been done for weeks and your garbage is piling up in the kitchen. This is when it is time to do something besides mope over the failed relationship.

Whatever you do if you were on the receiving end of the breakup, DO NOT call your ex. This is tantamount to humiliating yourself. They have already told you in plain English that they do not want to be with you. So do not beleaguer the point and make things worse than they have to be. If you feel the urge to call your ex - call your mom, call your friends - call anyone but your ex.

When the time is right you can even start dating again. But make sure you wait until plenty of time has passed so that you will not get hurt again or end up hurting someone else. Rebound relationships are not what you need. Spend time with your friends and family. Do things that you may have wanted to do for a while. Just work on you right now and do not worry about anything else. You will find that one day you will wake up and it will not hurt quite so bad. A failed relationship is not the end of the world even if at the point and time you believe it is.

There are many ways of dealing with feelings once you start to experience them. Only you know what your particular circumstance feels like. So take the time to slow down, get back into the world you once enjoyed and do not let a failed relationship prevent you from giving someone else a chance when the time is right.
