How To Make Your Resource Box Sticky (And Get Those Click-Throughs!)

When you're doing article marketing, you need not just one, but 2 click-throughs per article.

What? Why 2?

That's right–first you need an attention-grabbing title so that when viewers are looking at a page on an article directory that lists a whole bunch of titles, your article title will stand out from the crowd.

Someone clicking from that index page on a directory (or in search results in Google) is your first click-through.

Alright–the reader clicked through on your article title and finally makes it to the page that lists your whole article. Then what?

Once you get them to start reading your article, you then need to not only get them to read the whole article and reach the resource box (very much like writing a sales letter in fact where you want them to reach the order button), but also encourage them to click through to your web site.

Here's an example of a so-so resource box that will probably not inspire the maximum amount of click-throughs (and I am completely making up that website address in this example, so don't try to go there :-) ):

Godiva Hershey is the owner of the website Benefits of Chocolate at http://www.benefits-of-chocolate.com which is an immensely rich, quality resource on chocolate and its benefits, and a smorgasbord of health-related issues.

Now, that resource box gives them details about Godiva's site but no particular reason to click through.

How could it be better? Check this out:

You want readers to be so captivated by what you say in your resource box that they say to themselves, "Hey, I think they might have something that can help me further at their website–let me take a look!"

You get the idea - and then at the site you capture their email address before delivering the report, and follow up with them by email so they visit not just once but potentially several times over the course of your relationship with them. So you can see how articles can lead to significant traffic increases over time.

What have we learned so far this week about driving traffic to your website through article marketing?

In order to generate as much traffic as possible coming from our articles to our website we need to:

1) Be sure our titles are attention grabbing –It's not enough just to write a great article. We have to have title that makes a reader stop, click through to the full article, and read the article. Your title is like your curb appeal–you can have a great house inside, beautifully decorated and full of upgrades, but if the outside of your house is ho-hum and looks like every other house on the market, a potential buyer will drive on by. Don't let that happen!

2) Give the reader a reason to click through to your website from your resource box–what have you got to offer them?  Why should they go to your website? You must lure them in! Tell them to click and give them a reason why, and you will improve your chances of getting more traffic coming to your site through your article readers!
