Article Marketing Success: Learning To Enjoy Writing
Published By Google+

This certainly looks like an enjoyable exercise session!

What do you think of when you think of exercising?

If you’re an athletic type of person, then you might look forward to it.

Most people who do not currently exercise regularly will probably cringe at the thought of it though.

That’s how I am a lot of the time–I can make the most heartfelt, sincere plans of getting up first thing in the morning and getting a few miles under my belt, but when the morning rolls around I just want to stay in bed and nothing can budge me.

I was reading an article the other day that said that the trick to staying active was to do activities that you think are fun rather than the boring, painful or tedious ones. So, instead of doing 45 minutes on the treadmill or rowing machine (yawn!), get involved in a sport you would enjoy, like walking with a friend in a beautiful setting, dancing, or something that doesn’t seem like a chore to you.

It makes sense to me, and I thought it would be a good mind shift for other activities in life that we may dread, such as writing articles for article marketing.

What Is Your Attitude When You Think Of Writing Articles?

Anytime we approach a task with the thought that it’s sheer drudgery, there’s no doubt that we’ll:

  1. procrastinate for as long as possible
  2. have sort of a sluggish mindset that makes the actual activity seem to last longer and be more unpleasant than it has to be.

I’ve been doing article marketing and helping others do it for a long time, so I know why people dread writing articles sometimes. What’s worse is that the dreading can become chronic to the point where you just give up after a while, but I’d like for you to take a proactive view of things and change your attitude about writing articles before it gets to that point.

Just like you can make exercising fun by changing the activity you do and how you do it, you can also learn how to enjoy writing.

5 Tips For Learning to Enjoy Writing

1 – Make it easier by taking the pressure off.

One of the reasons writing an article may seem hard is that you have a certain idea in your head on how long it should take. Maybe you’ve heard about other people writing articles in a really short amount of time, and you feel pressure to match their speed.

My advise to you would be to take your time, and don’t compare yourself to others. Don’t put a time limit on your writing time or how long it will take you to complete the article.

2 -Make it doable.

Take baby steps. Give yourself several days to complete an article, rather than trying to write it all in one sitting. Also, be patient with yourself as you learn how to write articles. It’s not a skill that most people have innately, and it takes time to be developed.

It also helps to take a long range view of your article marketing success. When people start out thinking that they just need to write one or two articles in order for their website to end up at the top of Google, then they can get easily frustrated.

Instead, settle into the idea of writing articles on a regular basis and commit to submitting articles over the long term.

3 – Make it interesting.

Write about a topic that is small enough for you to cover in one article, but big enough to be interesting to you. Also, think about the type of article that you (as a reader) would find interesting, and then aim to write an article like that. Chances are if you’re writing boring articles that you will find the writing those articles boring.

Try to get a little creative in how you write and the way that you explain things in your niche to your readers.

4 – Make it social.

When you’re writing in a vacuum, it can get rather tedious. One thing that will help you enjoy writing is to think of it as interacting with your readers. In the online world, writing articles is one way that you can communicate with limitless people who are interested in your niche.

Try to write articles with a conversational tone. Think about what your readers might ask you to explain if they had the chance. Think of your article as a conversation (albeit one-sided) where you share valuable information with your readers.

5- Make it fun.

How can you make writing fun when you previously regarded it as a dreaded task?

I think back again to exercising. Most people that I know dread exercising, but when they’re presented with a form of activity that is just fun (such as dancing or playing a team sport) they find themselves exercising without even knowing it.

This is different for each person as each of us thinks of “fun” differently, but I enjoy the group writing projects, such as the one we did a few weeks ago (Wake Up & Write!). I also think it’s fun to answer reader questions, so you’ll see me doing that a lot in my writing.

What can you find that is a fun way for you to write?

Maybe you enjoy doing keyword research and then basing your articles off of the information that you find. Believe it or not, doing keyword research can actually be fun.

Maybe you like getting super creative with your articles and doing quirky things like this article I wrote the other week: Mark Twain’s Guide To Article Marketing

I don’t know what it is for you, but I know that most tasks can be made more enjoyable if you take a different approach to them.

I hope this helps you–what change can you make to your writing to make it more enjoyable?
