Article Marketing Tips: 6 Ways To Earn Trust and Respect Through Your Writing
Published By Google+

The articles that you write serve several purposes:

1 – They provide helpful information to you target readers.

2 – They solve problems that you target readers have.

3 – They help you become established as an expert in your niche, if you submit enough quality articles on a consistent basis.

4 – They can help your website’s search engine ranking, of course, and drive traffic directly to your site from the articles themselves.

There is another benefit to writing articles–they can help you earn the trust and respect of your readers. That’s a pretty lofty ambition considering that you will likely never meet any of your readers in person or have a chance to sit down face to face and have a real conversation.

In the online world, we have to shake up our preconceived ideas about business relationships. Your online presence needs to stand in for the physical “you”, and convey your professionalism, your friendliness, your knowledge, and your personality.

From these impressions of you, people get a feel for what your business is like.

How can you help your articles to do this?

1 – Invest yourself over the long haul.

A few articles isn’t going to cut it–it takes steadily providing helpful information.

2 – Let your guard down, and let the real you show through your articles.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that your articles are coming before the eyes of real people. Try not to get too caught up in thinking about how search engines will view your articles to the exclusion of how humans will react to them.

Loosen up and show a little of your personality, what your thought patterns are, your attitudes, your reactions to disappointments and to successes. You can be vulnerable about your own experiences, and you don’t need to come off like you’re perfect and have never made a mistake. It’s okay to make mistakes, and what you learn from them can be infinitely helpful to your readers (we all learn by making mistakes). When presenting yourself, be as honest and authentic as possible. Your readers will have a better chance of connecting with you.

3 – Provide reliably helpful information.

Really ask yourself–what do my readers need? What bothers them the most? What problems are they having that they need help with? Then, write articles that are geared towards the needs of your readers.

4 – Be encouraging and compassionate.

Sometimes the hardest part about learning something new is not the technical details–it’s the frustration, the fear of failure, the disappointment in yourself that you’re not catching on quicker. The best teachers always make students think, “Hey–I can do it!”.

5 – Get down on your reader’s level.

You aren’t standing at the front of the room giving a lecture, but rather you are walking beside your reader and trying to guide him or her. Speak in language that your newest readers can understand. Avoid industry jargon. Cover topics that address the needs of beginners. It’s fine to write for more advanced people in your target market, but your biggest readership will usually be beginners.

6 – Provide information that is not available elsewhere.

If you have a competitive niche, and you are seeing the same info pop up everywhere you turn, that is a good reminder to you that you need to set yourself apart and be different. Teach on your niche, but teach different things than what you’re seeing everyone else doing. Or, you can teach on the same topic, but do so in a unique way.

You will get better at this with the more writing that you do. You will start to develop your own voice, get your own point of view, and develop a writing style that is more and more “you”. I also think that consistently submitting articles plays a role in building respect and trust–the longer that you stick with this, the more comprehensive a library of content you’ll create. You’ll be writing on every aspect of your niche, and your knowledge of your subject will be evident to everyone who reads your articles.
