Article Writing Tips: How To Write An Article That Solves A Small Problem (And Makes A Big Difference!)

Article Writing Tips: How To Write An Article That Solves A Small Problem (And Makes A Big Difference!)

Your first order of business when writing an article is to select a topic. All of the articles that you write will be related to the topic of your website. For example, if you’re an accountant, then the general topic of your website is “accounting” and all of your articles will be about some aspect of accounting. If your website is a collection of chocolate recipes, then all of your articles will be about chocolate in some way. You get the idea…

But how can you figure out a specific topic to cover in your article?

There are tons of things you could write about, so how do you choose?

New To Writing Articles? 8 Steps For Writing Your First Free Reprint Article (It’s A No-Brainer!)

New To Writing Articles? 8 Steps For Writing Your First Free Reprint Article (It’s A No-Brainer!)

I once heard a wise person say that you can accomplish any challenge, as long as you break it down into small enough steps.

That advice made sense to me and gave me new hope for accomplishing some things that I had been putting off (and dreading) doing. So often we’re faced with doing things that we’re not used to doing, and we never begin because we feel so overwhelmed from the onset. I know it’s that way for some of you who are just starting to write articles for article marketing.

You may have never written an article before in your life. Perhaps the last time you wrote anything more formal than an email was when you were in school. Today I’m hoping to break down the challenge of writing your first article into small steps.

Each step builds on the others before it, and by doing each one of these very small steps you will end up with a finished piece of content that you can submit as a free reprint article.

Is Your Article Topic New To You? How To Write About An Unfamiliar Topic (4 Tips!)

Is Your Article Topic New To You? How To Write About An Unfamiliar Topic (4 Tips!)

Here was a question I received from a reader:

What about some advice for someone like me who has just landed a marketing job where she doesn’t know much about the product?  I’ve been used to writing articles on finance. Now I’m with a company that sells photography equipment, but chiefly digital memory. I’m not a photographer, and there’s a limit to what you can say about digital memory. So far I’ve been limited to committing the cardinal sins of pushing products and bringing up the company. I want to sign up for SubmitYourArticle.com, but with so little to write about so far, I’m stuck. Hayulp!

I’m so glad that you asked me this. So often we imagine that people who are writing free reprint articles know their topics inside and out, but there is also a good number of people who have the challenge of writing on topics that they’re totally unfamiliar with. Today I’ll give some tips for writing articles on hard or unfamiliar topics:

Need Article Ideas? How To Generate Loads Of Article Topic Ideas (In Just One Hour!)

Need Article Ideas? How To Generate Loads Of Article Topic Ideas (In Just One Hour!)

Do you come up with your article ideas one at a time, as the need arises when you need to write an article?

If so, I’d like to encourage you to experiment with a different strategy that I’ve found to be very liberating and that takes a lot of pressure off when it comes time to write.

This technique involves taking one hour to generate article topic ideas with working titles and a few beginning sentences. At the end of your idea gathering session, you’ll have a collection of 5-10 article ideas. When the time comes to write, you’ll simply look at your list of titles and select a topic that appeals to you.

This saves a lot of time because if you’re generating article ideas all at one time, you can get in “the zone” and get some momentum going. It’s a lot easier to do a lot of the same thing at once than to have to keep on switching gears.

Irresistible Articles: 4 Tips For Attracting (And Keeping!) A Reader’s Attention

Irresistible Articles: 4 Tips For Attracting (And Keeping!) A Reader’s Attention

Attract attentionYou know those commercials they sometimes have at the beginning of YouTube videos? Before you can watch the video you really want to see, the commercial starts playing, and a message pops up saying that in 4 seconds (or whatever) you can skip away from the commercial to the video that you want to watch.

Probably like everyone else, I always skip away from the commercial at the soonest possible moment. I don’t want to watch an advertisement or have somebody try to sell me something. The only thing I’m willing to pay attention to is content that really interests me.

Content You Can’t Turn Away From…

But something interesting happened the other day. I found a video on YouTube that I wanted to watch, and at the beginning of the video there was a commercial. I prepared myself to click the “skip ad” button as soon as it appeared, but the “commercial” actually caught my attention. The reason why was that it didn’t come off as a commercial at all. It came across as a “how to” video.

The video I wanted to watch was actually a cooking demonstration, and the pre-video commercial did something similar–it was demonstrating how to make a different recipe, but one that I found interesting as well. As a result, for the first time in my life I watch the whole pre-video commercial with rapt attention.

Afterwards I thought, “That’s exactly what we do with article marketing!”

Marketing With Articles: Writing Free Reprint Articles For A Product Based Website

Last time I shared some strategies with you about how to leverage your article submissions to draw readers to your website. I told you that the article should be used exclusively to teach the readers about your general niche, rather than to solicit sales.

Marketing With Articles: Using Empathy and Psychology To Come Up With Article Topics

Marketing With Articles: Using Empathy and Psychology To Come Up With Article Topics

Sometimes when we start thinking of article topics, we can get completely focused on teaching how to do specific things associated with our niche.

“What?” you ask. “I thought that’s what we were supposed to be doing!”

Before I confuse you too much, let me reassure you that teaching your readers how to do practical things associated with your niche should be the primary inspiration for your article topics.

But one thing I have noticed after spending years of teaching people is that sometimes people don’t need another step-by-step tutorial or more instructions on how to do something. What they really need is something more personal and less concrete in order to do the things that you’re trying to teach them to do.

It may be a surprise, but empathy and psychology do play a role in some of the articles that you create…

Article Marketing Tips: How To Teach Hard Topics

Article Marketing Tips: How To Teach Hard Topics

Have you ever felt like you’ve written about every possible topic associated with your niche that you can imagine?

That’s a common complaint I hear (and I’ve experienced it myself too!), but after writing on the same niche for many years now, I have come to think about things differently:

Limited topics, limitless articles.

I think that there are certain topics that we need to teach repeatedly in new ways. So, it’s not a matter of coming up with a new topic for each article. Rather it’s a matter of coming up with a new way of teaching an essential subject that readers are confused about. In a few recent posts, I’ve covered how to write on the same topic in new and different ways. You may wish to check out those other posts after reading this one. (I’ll give links at the end of this post.)

Article Marketing Tips – How to Anticipate The Needs Of Your Target Market

Article Marketing Tips – How to Anticipate The Needs Of Your Target Market

It was a beautiful, overcast rainy day the other day, the kind where you just want to curl up in front of the fireplace with a book. I was out and about though, and when I walked into a particular store I noticed a display case of umbrellas right at the entrance of the store.

“Very clever,” I thought. “I bet they bring out that display case whenever there is the chance of rain, and especially when it’s raining. People forget their umbrellas all the time, and umbrellas on a rainy day must be an easy sale.”

When I though further on that, I realized that there were other places in the store that maximized sales based on anticipating the needs of the customer.

For example, in the baking isle next to the cake mixes there is a little display case of birthday candles. How many times have you bought a birthday cake or made one for someone, only to forget the candles? It’s happened to me more than once! When the store puts the candles right next to the cakes it is a surefire way to capitalize on an anticipated need.

Did you know that you can show the same proactive provision of information when creating your free reprint articles? Here are a few ways to think ahead and plan for what your readers will need:

Article Marketing Strategies – Writing That Addresses Your Audience Directly

Article Marketing Strategies – Writing That Addresses Your Audience Directly

Recently I likened writing free reprint articles to being a rock star at a live performance. You have such a large potential audience that it can be difficult to know where to focus your attention.

Even when rock stars are performing for an audience of tens of thousands of screaming fans, I’ve often heard it said that they’ll pick out one person in the audience to sing or play to. Singling one person out helps them to “connect” with their audience in a way that playing to a massive group of people can’t.

It’s the same with writing articles for the internet. You may think, “Anyone in the world could be looking at my article. How can I make it sound personal and not like I’m a professor lecturing to a huge classroom full of students?”

Today we’ll go over a few strategies you can use to write articles that address specific questions that people in your target audience are wondering.
