What Is More Important – Quantity or Quality in Online Article Submissions?
Published By Google+

This is a great question, and I think I know where it comes from. You’re trying to figure out how to approach your article marketing campaign, and you’re wondering–

“Should I be spending less time on writing each article so that I have time to produce more of them, or is there really a benefit to taking the extra time to produce a quality article?”

So, you’re weighing the benefits of producing fewer quality articles or a larger quantity of not-so-great articles.

It’s an honest question that deserves an answer. You want to make the best use of your time, after all.

One thing that may help is to know that it’s not a matter of deciding between quality OR quantity. Throw that misconception out of the window right now.

Your goal is to produce quality articles, articles that are useful to your readers and that publishers will want to republish. Producing quality articles is the only way that article marketing will work for you.

You also need to write and submit articles consistently and in the appropriate quantity to see a payoff in the search engines. If you’re submitting through my article submitter, then submitting articles consistently means submitting 8 articles per month per website.

If you’re submitting articles manually, it means coming up with significantly more articles.

However many articles per month you need to do, your submissions need to be done steadily, every month over the long term. In the end, you will end up producing a large quantity of articles, but that takes place over time rather than all at once.

When you’re submitting articles automatically, there’s no need to submit tons of articles at one time to see an impact (in fact, doing so can work against you).

Your focus should be writing articles that:

  • Are well-written and free of grammar and spelling mistakes
  • Are logically organized
  • Teach an important skill or answer a confusing question
  • Improve the lives of your readers
  • Have interesting titles that catch a reader’s attention
  • Ideally are optimized for search engines, where you use your keyword phrases in a natural way in the title and the article body
  • Provide information that is not available elsewhere

You may be thinking that producing quality articles is just taking too much time. I know how you feel, but it may help to know that writing articles gets easier the longer you’ve been doing it.

As you’re first getting started, it may take you a significant amount of time (hours or days) to put an article together. You want to be sure it’s top rate, so you pour a lot of energy into it.

That is not a bad thing–you are honing your writing skills. You are focusing on what matters.

Just like a dancer may take a relatively long time when learning a new jump, spin or move, so you as a writer will likely take longer when learning the “moves” of writing an article.

But the more you do it, the more natural it will feel. The same with the dancer–when she has practiced an intricate move and is to the point of performing it, she makes it look easy. You would never have guessed that in rehearsal she fell on the ground repeatedly trying to teach her body to the new move.

It’s important to allow yourself to be a bit clumsy when first learning how to write articles. The finished piece you’ll submit will not betray your struggles, but beforehand you will have put in the necessary “rehearsal” in getting the article to the finished state.

So, is it quantity or quality with online article submissions?

It’s quality, and the quality articles should be submitted consistently on a monthly basis in the right quantity.

Thankfully when you’re submitting articles automatically you don’t have to stress too much about this issue–8 articles a month per website is really doable. That’s just two articles a week. With a that number of articles, it’s definitely doable to focus on quality.

  1. Nick says:

    Hi Steve,

In the long run quality will always outweigh quantity, but the question that needs to be asked is do you have the knowledge to produce the quality?

When you start writing articles perhaps you write a lot of articles to get yourself started. At this stage your knowledge is not so good so the quality is not as good as it could be.
