SEO Article Marketing: How to Ensure That Your Target Market Is Reading Your Articles
Published By Google+

I received this question recently:

I’ve been faithfully writing and submitting articles for the past few months. One thing that I wonder though is how can I know for sure that it’s my target readers who are reading my articles and not just a random collection of people?

That’s a great question, and I’m sure that other people are wondering this as well. You are writing your articles for a certain type of person, hoping that the people who have the best chance of potentially buying your products or enlisting your services are reading your articles.

You don’t really want to have every Tom, Dick and Harry stopping to read your article (not that it does any harm if they do), but what you’re really interested in is having a very specific type of person read your article and visit your website.

How can you be sure that it’s those special people who are drawn to your articles?

1 – Write articles that are “on topic” for your website.

This may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how often a person has a website on ballroom dancing, for example, but then he writes articles on rock climbing, or foreign films, or something else that’s unrelated to the topic of his website.

In case you didn’t know, in order for the article to draw in the appropriate type of readers, it needs to be written on a topic that is similar to the website that is being linked to in the resource box.

If your website is about ballroom dancing, then all of your articles should be related to ballroom dancing. That is one very basic way to be sure that you’re attracting readers who will be interested in what you’re offering at your website.

2 – Do keyword research.

[An aside: How does it make you feel when I advise you to do keyword research?

I feel like I say it quite regularly, and I wonder how that advice lands with you, if you're inspired to do it, or if you feel like it's something that's over your head and that you could never do.

I want to know how you're feeling on that--can you let me know? That will help me a lot in the type of information I provide for you on this blog.]

Here’s why I’m always recommending keyword research:  Keyword research allows you to get  more specific and strategic in attracting certain types of readers.

You have a group of people who you’re trying to attract to your articles and your website–these people are your “target readers” or “target customers”. They are the people who are most likely to be interested in what you have to offer, and therefore most likely to buy what you’re selling, whether that’s services or products.

If you can arrange for your article to get into those people’s hands (so to speak), then you’ll get much better results.

Did you know that this special group of people has a lot of similarities? They all have similar needs and they do similar searches in Google and the other search engines.

By doing keyword research, you can find out what this special group of people is searching for online. You can basically “get inside their heads” and find out what they need, what they’re searching for, what they value, and what would mean something to them.

When you have that information, then you can create content that satisfies those needs of your target readers. The better your content fulfills what your target market is looking for, the more it will end up before their eyes.

Your Homework:

1 – Write articles on the general topic of your website.

2- Do basic keyword research. It’s not as hard as you think it is, I promise. Here is a keyword tutorial for beginners.

As always, just let me know if you have any questions.
